Tidal waves result from 20 cannon balls dropped into Mt. Pleasant Pool

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - Upon This Tidal Wave of Young Blood (My!Gay!Husband! Remix)

Just in case you needed some baroque new-wave to drop into your juke set, local cannon ball champion Jason aka My!Gay!Husband! has got you all sorted out.

If you happened to catch Vancouver skids My!Gay!Husband! and Paul Devro while they were on tour in the east through Toronto, Montreal and New York last month you were lucky. These guys are the best. They are back in vancouver now showing us how it's done. Good thing for us too, it seemed so vacant here without them.

You can catch My!Gay!Husband and Paul Devro in Vancouver Tuesday nights at Shine and Saturdays at the Columbia.

Rhythmes Magnetique, Side E

Straight outta Rouen, France it's Loïc Boyer with another splendid mix...

Disco L'Imprimante - Rhythmes Magnetiques Face E (mp3, 30 minutes)

hey, hey, hey, this one's for ya
it's called Rythmes Magnétiques (side E)

and it goes a lil' some like this:

DABRYE "So Scientific" (2001Ghostly International)
aka Tadd Mullinix, you know, the guy who worked with Jay dee, Prefuse 73 and Jurassic 5. I love that sound. I'm always expecting Afrika Bambaataa to comme up with a "zulu" chorus anytime.

LAURENT LA TORPILLE "SanSSucreS" (2005 Euro-Visions)
More beats, more electro, this is Baroque Beats fore sure. Go Rouen, go!

PSYCHIC TV "OV Power" (2003 Tigersushi)
A re-issue of this mid-eighties track performed by Genesis P. Orridge's posse. Those were the "house" times of the band, and maybe not the best times. Anyway, still crazy enough to fit that mix.

UTER "Tomorrow's Clown" (2003 Oscarr Recordings)
Jesus & Mary Chain's alive! Uter met them on the bus with the Cocteau Twins.

STARSHOOTER "Le Poinconneur des Lilas" (1978 Pathé Marconi)
A gonzo punk band from Lyon, France, performing a Serge gainsbourg cover. A great sleeve design by Etienne Robial, and it was great to put this track just before:

TORTOISE & BONNIE PRINCE BILLY "That's Pep!" (2006 Overcoat Recordings)
A great Devo track, an insane song in an insane version. Great, and these guys made a whole album filled with magnificent covers from songs by Bruce Springsteen or Elton John. It's called the brave and the Bold, go and get it!

GRAND MASTERFLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE "The Message - instrumental" (1982 Sugarhill records)
It's always cool to put an easy classic between rough rarities…

ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO "Moscu Esta Helado" (1980 Ata Tak)
Spain used to go industrial, did you know that?

where da cash at?

Bun B (feat. Remy Ma, alan braxe and fred falke) - Draped Up

Got the draped up single last thursday and I absolutely had to re-work it. Alan Braxe and Fred Falke's "Rubicon" sounded good. But then the draped up chorus wasn't sounding right, so I replaced it with Remy Ma off Currency's "where da cash at" single.

I'm a man for you

The Needles - Dianne.mp3

Can't get this song out of my head. You're just gonna have to listen to it to see what I mean.

Now about that picture at the top. These two artists, one from vancouver island, Russ Morland, and one from montreal, Tim Barnard inked it out. They did a collaborative show in montreal back in April and this is one of the results.

Titanium Tim went ahead and dubbed the event "the fight all fight fans have been waiting for", which would prove to be somewhat amusing. According to Russ Morland (and he is british so he might be making it all up) there was a problem with wall space they could share, and there was a shortage of markers to draw on the walls. There was some disagreement between the two regarding the wall space and the markers and apparently according to Morland "tim wouldn't stop complaining" so Morland went and put Barnard into an armlock and took the black marker from him. I suppose there were a couple more altercations between the two of them one of which is shown in the picture below:

I originally thought that picture was fixed, so I just overlooked it for a couple of months, and it may be as that Russ guy can't be trusted. But now that it has been revealed to me that that picture captured one of the actual skirmishes between the british and the french (canadian) at an art event that was dubbed as a fight that turned into a fight I find it all too amusing and have to post it up here, even though it's old news, it's new news to me.

Like in The Movies is my new favorite song of the year. It starts around the 46:30 mark in the mix and it should be your new favorite song of the year as well.

P.S. Although the records in the picture are all the ones I played in this mix. They are not in any particular order in the picture.

radio show, may 12: this planet has a secret

radiozero may 12 2006.mp3 (part one mix by tyler fedchuk, 26 minutes)

This is a short one, but you have A.D.D.

artist / album / song / format (12" = vinyl)

sean paul +cagedbaby +the presets / radiozero / temperature (tyler fedchuk mix) / mp3
K.I.M. / system breakdown / wet n'wild / 12"
justice vs simian / we are your friends / original version / 12"
christopher and raphael just + ying yang twins / radiozero / 2xpress pop n'shake (shinichi osawa distortion version) live mix/ 12" + 12"
midnight juggernauts / 45 and rising / 45 and rising / 12"
the presets / are you the one? / are you the one? (club mix) / 12"
mash / somebodies property / somebodies property / 12"

Midnight Juggernauts: 45 and rising is out of this world. These two Australians just out-daft-punked Daft Punk, out-compressed Zdar, and out-guitared Braxe and Falke. It's that good.

Disco L'imprimante Mix

May 5th Show Part One: Disco L'imprimante Mix.mp3

Once again Loïc Boyer (Disco L'imprimante) is here to charm us with another fine mix that he put together in Rouen France for air on CiTR 101.9FM here in Vancouver, BC, Canada. And I think it's just fantastic that a guy living in france can be doing radio in canada.

Tracklisting and infos from Monsieur Boyer:

Steeple Remove, Vital Sasson (7", 2005)
The best band of my street, and probably even more! Somewhere between krautrock and shoegazing is a nice place to play. Whatch out for their new single, (with an amazing sleeve design by Laurent Fétis, once again) very soon on this show.

Revl9n, Someone Like You (Toxic LP, 2005)
Sounds like a funky Kim Gordon, right? By the way, so many dance tracks come from Stockholm these days, is it the end of the ice age? The dancefloor warms up in Sweden, and even in Denmark (think about Junior Senior). Maybe we can expect a kind of ,er… scandinavian touch?

Tuxedomoon, 59 to 1 (Half-Mute LP, 1980)
I found this record at a Current 93 concert in Nantes for the I.D.E.A.L. festival. A guy was selling the creme de la creme records from the industrial & co scene, inside the huge concert hall, so we could spend more money between the sets and get embarassed by our plastic bags when we wanted to applause David Tibet. But it was worth it! This saxophone is deliciously painful…

Bloc Party, Helicopter / Whitey version (Silent Alarm Remixed LP, 2005)
I was obsessed by the Phones edit of Banquet, but Diplo's remix of this track opened my ears on its qualities, so I picked up Whitey's version for you. Well, ok, I guess it's the last time I can play anything from Silent Alarm until it's fashionable again (by 2018 I guess…).

Joy Division, Love Will Tears Us Apart (Les Bains Douches vol.1, 2001)
A french radio station had the good idea to record this historic concert in 1978, december the 18th, so we can have a good live record of JD. The Still LP is interesting, but most of the time you can't hear the bass, and sometimes you can't even hear Ian Curtis! The funny thing about this parisian concert, is that so many people around here claim they were there, that it should have happened in full-packed stadium. But Les Bains-Douches is just a club, and if you listen carefully the whole record, the public sounds like 30 fans, not much more…

The Television Personalities, All The Young Children On Crack (7", 2006)
Damn, the guy's not dead (as his friends thought), but he seems even more crazy than before. If you want to know how not to make hit single, listen with attention.

Taxi-Girl, V2 Sur Mes Souvenirs (Cherchez Le Garçon LP, 1980)
Produced by Maxime Schmitt (he also worked with Kraftwerk and is currently in studio with Les Plasticine), this LP was the first album for Daniel Darc's post-punk band. Mirwais would join the following year to play guitar, but that's a story for another mix…

Mr Oizo, Stunt (Stunt EP, 2004)
I really love this two-tracks-but-only-one-side-EP, certainly because it's a two-tracks-but-only-one-side-EP. But more than that, the meeting of Mr Oizo and Sebastien Tellier made this amazing track possible! Even better than La Tuerie!

Loïc Boyer is an artist residing in Rouen France. He makes books, tapes, exhibitions and now Canadian radio. Visit his websites:

is it hot in here?

TemperatureMix (sean paul + the presets + cagedbaby).mp3

Here you go. This picture that tonyX made for the track is pretty hilarious, it was almost worth it to make this mix just for the image. And yeah, this track definitely sounds like Ferraris and psychadelic night-suns.

radiozero april 21 part 2 mix by Loic Boyer

download part 2 mix by Loïc Boyer (mp3 45 minutes)

Once again Loïc Boyer (AKA Bureau L'imprimante AKA Disco L'Imprimante) of Rouen, France is here to show us how it's done. Not only is he responsible for the visual design of this website (thanks!) but he's made this absolutely necessary mix of music. This is part two (part one was last week) of his Rhythmes Magnétiques mix he put together to provide a sonic landscape for his new book Rythmes Magnétiques: Dessins, Signes et Icônes Rassemblés Subjectivement wich means something like Magnetic Rythms: Drawings, Signs and Icons Subjectively Gathered. The book is limited to 100 copies at a cost of four euros, twenty of which will be available with this mix on a vintage BASF tape at a cost of five euros.

Click here to preview Loïc Boyer's Rhythmes Magnétiques and buy it.

Also, Loïc Boyer has started a really good mp3 blog / podcast called Piratemodecast. Check it out. I think we'll have Disco L'Imprimante on here regularly.

Here's the tracklisting and brief descriptions by Monsieur Boyer himself:

London Underground, Learn a Language (15 and X Years compilation LP 1996)
On-U Sound label made me discover Ari Up, African Head Charge, and Mark Stewart. And London Undrground's 1980' single you can hear right here. This sure is a pretty line up, right?

Le Club, Un fait Divers et Rien de Plus (Un fait Divers et Rien de Plus 7' 1982)
Dance to the sound of the violence in the streets. Gangs, skinheads, Ronald Reagan, Margareth Thatcher, junkies in the alley with the baseball bat, those were the early eighties days…

Tom Tom Club, On, On, On, On… remixed version (Under The Boardwalk EP 1982)
Such a great band, with connections into punk as much as into hip-hop, everybody loves their catchy beats and more-than-danceable bass.

Material, Don't Lose Control (I'm The One EP 1982)
Where electro meets the bongo, with pieces of cut-up. And a really heavy groove on Bill Laswell's bass, pushed forward by Michael Beinhorn's synthesizer. Definitly one of a kind.

Sexual Harrassment, If I Gave You a Party - Syrup version / dance edit (Anti NY EP II 2001)
I guess this 1983 track became a classic since its re-issue by the Gomma gang. Well, to me it is. Another EP I bought for the design. Paow!

Tubeway Army, Me! I Disconnect From You (Replicas LP 1979)
Would you believe me if I tell you that I bought this record because of the cover? But it's true! It was a bit expensive for a second-hand, but it seemed so mysterious… And sure Gary Numan is a mysterious guy. I'll never regret those 6 € I left on the flea market.

Phase II, The Roxy (New York City Rap promo LP 1982)
It seems they forgot this great track when they issued The Celluloid Years compilation the other week. But don't worry, Disco L'Imprimante is here with his bunch of records from the flea markets!

New Flesh, His Story Crockery feat. The Ramm:Ell:Zee (Understanding LP 2002)
I've always been fascinated by pop art figures connecting with the pop music side. The Ramm:Ell:Zee is probably one of the best, and if not, he's still alive, and recording!

The Pop Group, Beyond Good and Evil (Kiss The Future LP 2005)
This early Mark Stewart track (1979) is a delicious psycho-funk anthem that can't let you still. Makes me wanna riff with a white guitar!

52nd Street, Twice As Nice (Cool As Ice/Twice As Nice EP 1983)
By the time I was collecting anything designed by Peter Saville, I found this strange Factory Benelux 12", which had a little succes in the NY club scene with its François K remix (wich is not the one you can hear, this one's signed Oz).

I've set a new standard for myself here. Which is good because I quit my job and my last day was yesterday. Now I'm an unemployed college radio DJ, but that's cool. I need a working holiday.

I'm pretty happy with the temperature mix, but it's not perfect. I'll make an official remix of temperature by weeks end. Gonna burn down the summer with this one.

Friday, April 14 show featuring Loïc Boyer

Download part one, featuring Loïc Boyer, mp3, 45 minutes.

Tracklisting and info from our guest, Loïc Boyer:

Electric Callas, Winner (untitled EP 1981)
Electric Callas was a late 70s french punk band, but when it was time to record their second (and last) single, they turned to this supercool Amanda Lear-esque white funk.

The Glove, Perfect Murder (Blue Sunshine LP 1983)
The one and only recording from Robert Smith and Steve severin's side project. Rare and beautiful.

Yoko Ono, Let The Tears Dry (My Man 7' 1982)
Strange beatbox-meets-gospel track, haunted by the death of the loved one.

The Royal Family & the Poor, Art On 45 (Toxic LP 2005)
Originally a 1981 Factory Records EP, re-issued on the fantastic Toxic compilation by freaks Uncle O & Solo. Punk + P-Funk = P-Punk?

Morplay, Check Your Pulse (Electroclash LP 2002)
Perfect fake old school electro hip-hop. Not much clash in this electro, but it's alright this way.

Station Rose, Eclipse (Live @ Home 2 EP 1999)
I met the "best multimedia band in the world" (their words) while I was supporting their act one night. They gave me that record after beeing so amazed by the fact that I could play Psychic TV in an electro set. They sound quite Chris & Cosey themselves, don't they?

Freeez, I Dub U (I O U 7" 1983)
One day, latin hip-hop will rule the world again. All praises due to Arthur Baker and Jellybean Benitez.

Fantastic 5 MC's live (Hip-Hop Funk Dance Classics vol.1 LP 1991)
This is not a record, this is history!!

Buggles, I Am a Camera (I Am a Camera EP 1981)
To be honest I bought this one for the cover, and was a bit disappointed by the music the first time I listened to it. But by now it's one of my favorites, with its epileptic bassline, and its cold cold mood…

Konk, Elephant (The Sound of Konk LP 2004)
Another band who got their first recording issued by 99 Records, like Y Pants, Liquid Liquid, or ESG. The hell of a scene!!

Guillaume Fédou, Ce Job Est Pour Moi (Ce Job Est Pour Moi 7" 2003)
Damn! I'll never understand why this track never became a hit, remixed by a bunch of hip producers, etc. But I guess it's not too late!!

Castle D., Just Saying Fresh Rhymes (The Best Of B-Boy Records LP 2002)
I used to love this track, even when I hadn't seen Assault On Precint 13 yet. John Carpenter rules!

Psychic TV, New Sexuality (A pagan Day LP 25th december 1986)
A grrrreat album, filled with marvelous songs. I play it as soon as I can, in any set, there's always a song that can match the mood. Thanks to Olivier Hahn who bought plenty of Psychic TV records at the right time, and who gave 'em to me when he turned to eighteenth century music.

Big thanks to Loïc Boyer of Rouen, France for two things: First we can thank him for the new look of this website. He designed the banner and really made the radiozeroradio page look fresh. And second he has recently published a fantastic limited edition book called Rythmes Magnétiques: Dessins, Signes et Icônes Rassemblés Subjectivement wich means something like Magnetic Rythms: Drawings, Signs and Icons Subjectively Gathered. It's a visual universe inspired by the music you can hear on this mix. Totally early '80s with the reminisence of Vivienne Westwood. And in addition to this book he has put together this awesome mix which out-radiozeros me! I'm gonna have to get another job and buy up all these records now.

This is the A side of his mix tape (that is actually available on cassette tape!). It's like the introduction to an amazing art party. I'm listenting to this expecting Jean-Michel Basquiat to ring me up and tell me that he and Bowie are dropping by in an hour. But that's a ghost story for another time...

The book is limited to 100 copies, and 20 pieces will be sold with the mix on a vintage BASF tape M. Boyer found at the flea market the other sunday. The price for the book is 4€ for the regular edition, 5€ for the limited edition with the original cassette tape mix. Yeah you have the mix on your computer now, but what about the real thing? The hard copy.

Click here to preview Loïc Boyer's Rhythmes Magnétiques and buy it.

click here to visit Loïc Boyer's website, Bureau L'imprimante.

Stay tuned for next week when we premiere the b-side of the Rhythmes Magnétiques mixtape.

you are an angelwitch

Angel Witch - Angel Witch

Well it looks like I've cracked and decided to post an mp3. I had to. This is hands down the best metal song ever, and as it would turn out I currently can't think of any song from any genre I like better. It has the redundancy factor wich is huge in my books (Just look back to my obsession with the song Motorhead by Motorhead and you'll know what I mean). And seriously Angel Witch is catchy as hell- I'll be damned if there wasn't a club full of well dressed people singing along at the gang of youth party two weeks ago.

This track was recorded off the original pressing of the album "Angel Witch", which was released in 1980 on Bronze Records and is a bastion of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM).

friday march 03, 2006 download. The post-punk/electro/disco/new-wave/rocksendupshow

Download Show Here (72 minutes, all music no talking)

(Playlist for the show is below, I've written out all the talking so you just have to listen and enjoy)

This show walks a fine line between modern retro obsession and vintage originals. We start off in 1986 at the scene of a horrific car crash involving a frenchman named Kavinsky, a Ferrari and the zombie that emerged 20 years later to get vengence. We follow Kavinsky's nod to Jan Hammer with some pixel age doomsdayery courtesy of Kraftwerk's "Computer World" followed by more 80's doom shit with Afrika Bambaataa and John Lydon together as Time Zone rapping on "World Destruction."

Ying Yang Twins lighten the mood for the hip-hop section (if you could call the prior mood heavy, I was thinking it was some combination of corny and awesome) with Xpress 2's europeansuperclub remix of "Shake", which I mixed some classic Yaz into the end, followed by DJ Ayers' delightful rework of the Talking Heads' classic "Sugar on My Tongue" and Modern Romance's "Nothing Ever Turns out Like You Planned / Queen of the Rapping Scene" (check the french accent, it's like Uffie in 82 with more treble and without the sex).

Chicken Lips nod to 70's vocalists with "White Dwarf" and Waves follow with some vintage, possibly french-canadian electro disco on the track "Touch". I don't know, Rollo is a canadian label, and the singer's got a french accent, so I just assume she's from Quebec perhaps. Does anybody else know about this band?

Vortex followed Waves (coincidence?) with "Black Box Disco" which is an original soundtrack piece from an old new york indie film called either Vortex or Grey Death starring Lydia Lunch. I think the film was called Grey Death for some reason, but the Soul Jazz liner notes call the film Vortex, but I think that Vortex was the name of the free-jazz / electronic outfit that worked on the soundtrack. Maybe you, dear listener can deduce this mystery and we can get to the truth. Either way, it's a great track.

Speaking of New York indie films with soundtracks, here's one for you. Guy Richards Smit writes and directs films, paints satirical watercolors and plays a fictious character in the art-rock band Maxi Geil! & Playcolt that scores the soundtracks for his films. Maxi Geil! & Playcolt released a beautiful picture disc 12inch vinyl that features this track, "Making Love In The Sunshine" as well as "That's How The Story Goes." I would strongly recommend you go get this record if you are at all interested in vinyl and music. It's available from Roebling Hall in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) at 390 Whyte Ave, and in the Chelsea area in Manhattan at 606 West 26th Street. Yeah if you happen to read this and you are on foot in New York looking for collectible vinyl... And while you're in New York Maxi Geil! will be doing a show on March 12 at the Northsix in Brooklyn. Also, Maxi Geil! & PlayColt is about to go back in the studio to record their second full length LP for FRED [LABEL] LTD (London) with producers Josh Hager (the Elevator Drops, Garvy J, The Rentals) and Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, Pixies, Hole, etc.)

Next up, Joe Jackson with "Sunday Papers"... While he was poppy-punk before he was poopy-pop, Anthrax even covered him (remember "Got The Time?)! And my favorite new rediscovery is Pere Ubu's "Pa (Ubu) Dance Party" from 1979's Dub Housing - absolutely brilliant post-punk track. The B-52's fill in the recognizable nostalgia section here with "Dance This Mess Around" from their 1979 self titled LP.

boogeRS from France come in with their anti-image electro/punk super-hit "Ashtray" which will be released soon on vinyl from gangofyouth.

Were almost done.

Next up is a collaboration between Soul Jazz post-punk/disco poster-boys Arthur Russell and Nicky Siano operating together as Felix. Joakim follows with his new single "I Wish You Were Gone" which is like house or disco, but it's also got this really hooky no-wave guitar riff which I really like. This song is just really good. And this is followed by Cut Copy, a long time favorite here with "Going Nowhere" (finally finally available on vinyl!!!)

And Sebastien Tellier, another frenchman finishes out the show with his delightful pop song "Broadway." Is it just me or does he sound exactly like Paul MacCartney here. And the trumpet bit sounds a lot like something out of the Yellow Submarine. Or like the bit out of "penny lane" Which is really fantastic since I am a huge MacCartney fan and I like subtle references to psychedelic music anytime.

best of 2005 punkrockdiscomix show finally up now

Click here to download 75 minutes, mp3

Alright, stop me if you've heard this one before, but this show is finally up to downlload now. This program originally aired back on january 6th and featured selections of my favorite "dance" oriented singles that ranged from campy french house (shoot the model) to blistering american rock (LCD soundsystems cover of Harry Nilsson's "Jump into the Fire"). As usual with these things I had to re-record the mix at home cause of technical difficulties at the station. This works for you though cause the sound is way better, and it's just a continuous mix without any of my talking, or PSA's. Although I think my on-air mixing was better, aside from Mainline's "black honey" record that that took the brunt of a new-years eve baby-duck attack and didn't play originally on air too well. It took a while to clean the wine off that record, but then sometimes the on-air problems are charming. Anyhow, time to exorcise these songs from the radio show's repertoire once and for all.

radiozero's "favorite rock singles of 2005" show up for download now

Download Here mp3, 70 minutes

Okay, so it's over a month since I did the original broadcast of this show, but sometimes it takes this long to get my act together. Also, I think this list is unique enough to have waited for, and I doubt anyone is sick of these songs yet. I'm still not. But then I live in Vancouver where this music is not readily available whatsoever.

This is by no means the definitive list of the absolute best rock songs of the year. In fact this list is completely subjective in relation to what I personally own on vinyl. So this is more like the "best collection of rock singles that I mail-ordered from british record stores this past year."

Furthermore, It seems as though by objectively reviewing my selections here that I am somewhat like Eddie Argos' (Art Brut) "little brother" in that a good portion of these songs are b-sides of 7 inch singles.

Furthermore to this it seems that by objectively reviewing my objective review of my selections that what I really mean by associating my character with Argos' Little Brother is that only the two Cribs tracks are b-sides - and none of them are bootlegs. No wonder my parents don't worry about me.

Also, my show has been pre-empted by live sports coverage and specialty programming for Black History Month these past two weeks so I won't be producing a live broadcast until march 3. I will be in the meantime putting up radiozero's favorite punk-disco-beat / campy-french-house tracks of 2005 in the next couple of days, I promise. I just have to re-record the mix at home. So check in for that, or just subscribe to my new podcast in iTunes and it will just show up for you magically.

Finally I have got last weeks show up now. As usual the original live recording from the station was plagued with problems, but for you dear listener I have re-recorded the mix at home. This is one of the good ones for sure ranging from rap, dancehall, disco, new wave, art-rock, mashup, synth-pop, booty bass, british rock, nostalgia, and ending on melancholic (almost corny) indie pop.

We start off with a couple of decent raps courtesy of the Rub Remix 12"s (Nas, Ludacris and Doug E Fresh followed by classic G Unit) then move into some dancehall / new wave type shit where DJ ABCDEFG puts Sizzla up against Bronski Beat (hollertronix 12" #3), which turns out ridiculously well.

The next four tracks I just thought would be fun to drop in. I only dropped Thriller cause the Skatt Brothers track is going on about creepers walking in the night, and the Jets track followed cause I like how it starts in on "don't call me when the radio cuts off in the middle of your favorite song"

The cut copy track "Stars" is an older one that originally came out on the Supercuts Compilation back in 2002, and has been freshly reissued as the b-side of their Going Nowhere 7" (modular 2006). Followed this by Lindstrom and Prins Thomas' rework of Answering Services "Call me Mr. Telephone" which originally debuted in 1984 on italy's Third Label. This version is currently out on Mantra Vibes' Confuzed Disco Sampler 12" (mantra vibes 2005). The New Young Pony Club ends this part of the set off with tight fit (tirk 2005) and I think they are putting an album out this year, and a new single is on the way shortly.

Now for the goods, Jay Z takes on A-ha and Outkast in DJ crooked's "Papi on Me" (smelly fatso 2005) which is just solid gold, DJ Assault and the Rakes battle of the bassline follows.

Now, Grauzone's "Eisbar" is one of the best songs ever, dating back to 1981, in this track Stephan Eicher talks about how he wants to be a polar bear cause they're used to being lonely, I think. It's in german and my grasp of this language lies in the hands of my German roommate Norman.

Following Eisbar I mashed three six mafia's "Stay Fly" with Zongamin and Jacko, which I think sounds alright.

And now my favorite track of the year so far, is gotta be Kids and Thieves by Roger (mate 2006). This is the Sigils remix of the song, and it is amazing. I don't usually get so hyped on remixes, but this is so good! Roger's current Devoesque vocals are matched by wobbly tempos, outta control rock drum fills, and shit-hot organ mashing. And I think the Sigils are hippies, according to Roger, which is kinda strange cause I never thought hippies could be this rad.

(This is where the melancholy part of the show begins.) And another remix which I really like is Whiteys intrumental mix of Cut Copy's "Going Nowhere" (modular 2006). We follow this by the Split Enz' "Six months in a leaky boat" (another song I have up for "one of the best songs ever" nomination) from back in 1983, and we end the show off with the Semifinalists' "Show the way" (Regal Bear 2005) which comes in a nicely overdone 7" all wrapped up to look like an award at the pony show. Beautiful catchy melodies and optimistic lyrics bordering on the corny side, but sometimes I like it like that. Just try to forget this song while you're pissing away at your job on monday.

Boot of the week!!!

Check out who's got the boot of the week over at MashCulture, yours truly. Pretty stoked about that.

Even more stoked that the folks at MashCulture made this amazing flyer for the track, and inserted Susumu Mukai (aka Zongamin) into the Three Six gang. So thanks to Bold Bob and crew for that.

Check it:

And you best drop by Three Six mafia's site too cause Juicy J's indie cred (check the misfits T) is outta control:

And go and check out Zongamin cause he's got a new album on the way that I would recommend you be on the look out for.
